Repair or Replace? How to Decide on Your Garage Door
When something goes wrong with a garage door, the first question is almost always: do I fix this, or is it time for a new one? The honest answer depends on a few things, and a good company will tell you straight.
Lean toward repair when: the door itself is in good shape, the problem is a single component (spring, opener, roller, cable, or one panel), and the door isn't more than 10–15 years old. Most of these are quick, affordable fixes.
Lean toward replacement when: the door is significantly dented or warped, multiple systems are failing at once, the door isn't insulated and your garage is uncomfortable, or you simply want better curb appeal and security. A modern insulated door can also cut energy loss.
The cost question matters too. If a repair runs a large fraction of the price of a new door — and the door is already aging — replacement is usually the better value over time.
